The long cherished dream of the people of Katra, Panthal, Kakriyal, Bhagtha, Manoon, Sirah, Cherai, and adjoining areas was fulfilled when the Government of Jammu and Kashmir decided to open 52 new degree colleges in the uncovered areas of the State. Government Degree College Kakryal/Katra was sanctioned vide Government Order No 48-HE of 2019 dated 05/02/2019 by which only 42 colleges were sanctioned initially as decided by the State Administrative Council on 14/01/2019.
The college was formally inaugurated by Janab Talat Parvez Rohella, Commissioner Secretary Higher Education Department on 17th July, 2019 in the august presence of Prof. R.K. Ganjoo, Director College Development Council, University of Jammu, Jammu and Dr. S.P. Sarswat, Nodal Principal, G.G.M. Science College, Jammu in Panchyat Ghar, Dadoora, Near Amba Kids Home School, Panthal.
The institution is temporarily affiliated with the University of Jammu, Jammu and at present dealing in Arts and Social Sciences.
The college has a dedicated teaching faculty who put their best efforts to impart holistic education to students. Time to time the institution conducts several programmes and activities for the overall development of the stakeholders. Dr. C.K. Khajuria, the Principal of the college and his team is always on its toes to achieve the goal of Excellence that has been imprinted in the logo of the college designed by Prof. Surya Partap Singh.
It gives me a great pleasure to welcome you to this institution of higher learning. I feel privileged to act as the head of this reputed institution. The Government Degree College Katra is affiliated to the University of Jammu, J&K, UT. The college was established in 2019 by the Govt. of Jammu and Kashmir and is at its nascent stage. At present the college is running in Panchayat Ghar, building, Dadoora. The construction work of the college building on a piece of land measuring 54 Kanals has been started. The new college building site is located in the calm, serene and picturesque Trikuta Hills at Panthal near Katra and is in its final stage of completion. Presently the college is offering Arts and Social Sciences subjects with certain subject combinations. Skill courses and Value-added courses have also been introduced under NEP. The main aim of the GDC Katra is to help the students to build confidence and independence and to encourage them to think critically to handle the real-life situations. As per the directions of Higher Education Department, the college has implemented the NEP-2020 Policy from the 2022-2023 session. A large number of students have been enrolled. Once the new college building becomes functional at Panthal, the new streams would be introduced with a variety of subject combinations, having job prospects for benefit the student community.
